An episodic treatment is a stronger dose of medication that you take when you feel an outbreak coming. It is a 5-day treatment that speeds up recovery and reduces the severity and length of the outbreak. Episodic treatments do not reduce your risk of getting an outbreak nor spreading the virus to your partners.
