Can I take birth control while using period delay treatment?
Yes! You can continue taking your birth control while using period delay treatment. For best results, start the delay treatment 3 days before your expected period.
Please note: this treatment does not provide pregnancy prevention.
Here’s how it works depending on the type of contraceptive you're using:
On a progestin-only method (IUD, implant, Slynd, or Errin)
Yes, you can continue taking Errin (or your prescribed birth control) alongside period delay medication. Using both together is safe and helps maintain effective pregnancy prevention while also supporting menstrual delay. It’s important to take both medications as directed.
Recently started combination birth control (estrogen + progestin)
It’s normal to experience irregular bleeding during the first 3 months. You can still use the delay treatment during this time if needed.
On combination birth control for more than 3 months
If you're trying to delay your period during the placebo (non-hormonal) week, start the delay treatment during the last 3 active pills in your pack and continue it through the placebo days. Still experiencing irregular bleeding during active pills? We recommend checking in with your Wisp provider to explore other contraceptive options.
